LIFE GOES ON

"Life Goes On" portrays the hard lives of Grandfather İbrahim from Doğubayazıt who feels he would die if kept away from his lands, his son İsmail , the potter who has 2 wives and 7 children and in the broader sense it deals with the migration theme to a big city which results in the disintegration of the family, the fight for power among the family members and the concept of being co-wives. Ismail has 4 children from his first wife Kudret whom he was forced to marry and has 3 children from his second wife Cennet whom he fell in love with at first sight. As the story progresses, as İsmail no longer earns enough from pottery sales, he decides to migrate to İstanbul with the support of his eldest son Siraç and his daughter Zeliha who settled in İstanbul a few years before. Meanwhile, Hayat, the middle female child of the family, has a secret love affair with Kerem, who is the son of one of the old families of the region. The excitement of youth and the fever of love lead Kerem and Hayat to make the mistake of making love before marriage. When her family learns the situation, they accept the offer of 70 year old Abbas who is one of the richest, meanest and influential people of the town, when he wants to marry the 15 year old Hayat. Due to the compelling circumstances, the family is forced to go and settle in İstanbul. However, the big city is full of dangers. The fact that İsmail and his wives can't get used to İstanbul, İsmail's daughter Şirin's passion for fame and money, Bekir's walking the dark path, city life destroying quiet lame Malik, Hayat's transformation from a fragile girl to a bitter, heartless woman, after putting up walls to confine her scabbed little body and wounded soul, the eldest son Siraç's impossible love, Zeliha's struggle for her family and her love are condensed sub-stories that constitute this grim story.
